In November 2009, the G-20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors endorsed a report prepared by IMF staff and the FSB Secretariat on "The Financial Crisis and Information Gaps".
The report contained 20 recommendations to close information gaps revealed by the crisis. Staff were requested to report back in June 2010 with a concrete plan of action, including a timetable, to address each of the outstanding recommendations.
To ensure that the emerging workplans are informed by a broad range of views, the IMF Statistics Department and FSB Secretariat organised a conference in Basel on 8-9 April 2010, hosted by the Bank for International Settlements (BIS). Conference participants reviewed the plans and proposed timetables to take forward each of the recommendations. Points raised and the conclusions of the discussion will be reflected in the June 2010 progress report. A summary of the conference together with material presented at the conference is available at: http://www.imf.org/external/np/seminars/eng/2010/infogaps/index.htm and a press release at: http://www.imf.org/external/np/sec/pr/2010/pr10155.htm.
